Product Space @ Duke — Fellow

Program overview

Organization: Product Space · Chapter: Duke University · Role: Fellow

Product Space is a national student program that connects students with opportunities in product management and development through mentorship, hands-on projects, and industry engagement. Duke’s chapter brings this network to campus through weekly sessions, speaker events, and collaborative learning experiences that explore how design, engineering, and data intersect in real-world products.

As a Product Space fellow this semester, I am working with a team on projects for Helian AI, a medical device software platform focused on streamlining quality management systems (QMS) for healthcare and life sciences organizations. Helian integrates tools for document control, training, and compliance into a unified system, with the goal of improving efficiency while meeting strict regulatory standards.

My involvement

Through my work with Helian AI, I am contributing to a series of product-focused projects that span UI/UX design, frontend and backend development, and AI integration. Each project addresses a different aspect of the platform, with the shared goal of improving usability, flexibility, and overall product quality within a regulated medical software environment.

As part of the team, we are working on a range of projects that enhance both the functionality and user experience of the platform. These efforts include redesigning key interfaces for clarity and professionalism, developing more flexible systems for document organization, and integrating AI-driven features such as automated training assessments. Together, our work focuses on making the platform more intuitive, adaptable, and effective for diverse users while maintaining the rigor required in medical and regulatory environments.

Landing Page Redesign

This project focuses on transforming an AI-generated landing page into a polished and trustworthy interface. While preserving the original content, the redesign improves visual hierarchy, typography, and layout to better communicate the platform’s capabilities. The work draws from modern SaaS design standards and emphasizes responsiveness, branding, and user trust.

Custom Document Control System

This project replaces a rigid folder structure with a dynamic system that allows users to create custom folders and nested hierarchies. Inspired by tools like Google Drive, the design improves organization and adaptability while maintaining strict data isolation between companies. The work involves both frontend interface design and backend database restructuring.

AI-Generated Training Quizzes

This project introduces AI-generated quizzes to assess user understanding of training materials. Using large language models, the system creates multiple-choice and free-response questions based on training content, with automated grading to evaluate comprehension. The goal is to shift training from passive completion to active learning and verification.

UI/UX Platform Redesign

This open-ended project focuses on identifying and redesigning areas of the platform with inconsistent or cluttered interfaces. By simplifying layouts, improving spacing, and refining navigation, the work creates a more cohesive and intuitive user experience. The redesign emphasizes clarity, consistency, and modern design principles across the platform.
